The integrated chat client is designed to mimic clasic IRC clients in its
basic functionality, so people can get productive with it right away. It lacks
some advanced features found in most IRC Clients (mostly scripting and configurability).
As this is not primarily designed as a Chat program. Still there are many features to make the
chat enjoyable:
- Public and Private Chats
- Custom Messages
- Automated List exchange
- Automated Server Access
- File Send option
- History in the type
entry box
- Auto Copy to clipboard
when selecting
- Away mode with
custom away message
- Un-attended Mode
- Operator commands: Op,
Deop, Kick, Ban
- Channel Properties
(secret, keyed)
- Logging
- Beeping
- Flashing of inactive
windows when new data arrives
- Friends Lists and Ignore
Lists.
Also, some concepts differ from the IRC protocol and there are some new
concepts. In Filetopia channels are more persistent (they are not destroyed as soon
as all users leave a channel). so are channel modes and channel
operators. The nicks are also more persistent, it is not as easy to change
nicks as it is in IRC. The reason we did it this way is to avoid in part some of
the problems found in IRC: Channel take-overs, wars, etc. Filetopia is aimed to be
completely anonymous, but some responsability of what we do while online is needed for a
peaceful and rewarding stay.
The channel creator is the only owner of the channel, and thus, cannot be
kicked, banned or de-oped. The Channel owner can be recognized with a # in front of his
nick.
